Editing films on PC

I have only just got a PC with a DVD drive and I want to know the best way to edit DVDs and save them/put them on YouTube. How do people do this?!

DVDshrink is a great program

easydivx is a good DVD to DivX converter

and virtualdub is a nice video manipulating software

all are free if your more specific in what you want to do I can be more specific in replying not that I'm much of an expert in video editing

Ooo okay, well I want to be able to take a piece of a DVD and put it onto youtube basically. So, play a DVD on my computer but not save the whole thing, just a section of the film. Then upload it.
