Storage Heaters - Can I Cover them.

Just got a new flat and there is a big ugly storage heater in the living room. The other heaters in the other rooms are covered but not this one. The uncovered one is a convector/storage heater. Is it ok to put a rad cover on storage heaters like this one. How much space must i allow around it if i can? Thanks
