How can I permanently disable such programs as AIM and MS Messenger from loading to the systray? I can delete them from startup using msconfig/ a reg editor, but they will ALWAYS reload on next start up after I use them! It's driving me nuts!

why do you keep using them if you want to get rid of them?
Would not normally answer a techy question so dont shout if this is not correct. With MSN Messenger, look under Tools - Options - Preferences tab and the top 3 options allow you to stop it starting up and running in the background. I am not familiar with AIM so cant help on that one.

Melly J I don't keep using them, my kids do. Which is cool with me, but I just don't want them clogging up my start-up. MistyLady Thanks, and close, but no cigar... anyone?!?!
You can go to start, run, type in MSCONFIG and enter. Chosse select start-up tab, uncross the box with your AIM, ICQ, AOL, or any new programs that boot up at start that you don't want to run in memory. Put a shortcut on desktop to pull up when you want to use them
PS Only uncross programs that you know - otherwise you could mess up the Windows boot-up. You will be prompted to reboot your computer, but when you downlaod these type of programs you can tell it not to put it on the taskbar. Be sure to close all programs running when you install anything or that program may not function properly.
