You could get a PDA or phone for less that will not only display eBooks, but a do whole lot more besides. Not to mention that eBooks are often more expensive than their print counterparts! How the heck can they justify that?
I personally use my (free on contract) HTC Touch + the (free download) Mobipocket and plunder the selection of (free because they are out of copyright) books at Project Gutenberg.
If there was no DRM (so that when I change my device I'm not stuck) and the price was better I would consider buying new books as downloads, but not until then.

I would love one - the battery life is really excellent. It isn't backlit so is easy on the eye and can be read in bright sunlight.
I read at least 20 books when I go abroad for a month, so this would make life a lot easier.
I sometimes have problems manipulating books and this would solve that problem too. And the font can be altered without losing paragraphs.
Yes I know I could use my laptop, but this is a lot more portable, can be used anywhere for many hours without a recharge, and I could use it lying down, just as I would a book.
There is only one problem - I do not buy novels. I get all of my novels from the library (the author gets his fees) - I simply could not afford to buy as many books as I read, and I certainly couldn't store them all.
