How does lateral G (as experienced by F1 drivers) affect the brain? And how much lateral G would be needed to make a driver black out or red out?

The reason Douglas Bader was such a good flyer was that when you are pullng a high g maneouvre, the blood rushes from the top of your body (your brain) to the lower parts (your feet). Since he had no legs he could actually pull higher gs than someone with legs
