can anyone tell me is the Lifecam VX5000 compatible with Linux? Just bought one for my husband not realising his laptop is running Linux, and if it's not going to work I don't want him to open the box before I get a chance to return it!
Thanks in advance.

Probably not!

Although you haven't said what "flavour" of Linux it is (there are loads... ubuntu, red hat, mepis, etc. etc.)

and in theory it is possible to get most hardware working with linux, but I reckon with a microsoft cam it would probably be more work than it's worth.

Logitech is probably the best bet to work with linux, my logitech pro9000 works out the box with unbuntu no problems
