I have MS Office 2000 and all I want to do (for now) with Power Point is create a slideshow of pictures from My Documents to email to a friend. I don't have any books and my husband has no clue how to do this. When I open the application all I get are a bunch of confusing questions and a paperclip. How do I do this? Or is it only possible with the 2003 version?

You should be able to do this in all versions of powerpoint, but be aware that this will be a huge file to email and powerpoint is really the best thing to use this for. What may be a better option is to utilise an online album and then email the link to your friend. A google search of "online photo album" will give you plenty of options. I have used yahoo in the past. hope this helps.
sorry...should have read.."powerpoint is NOT really the best thing"
there is a great little freeware program called picturestoexe really simple to use can also add audio to it and has lots of transitions if u want to use them...freeware limits photo number to about 10 and full version is about 20pounds no limit to number of photos....its fab i use it lots ....The finished file is an all in one exe file...(all the recipient has to do is double clik on it and it starts all by itself including audio...fantabulous.
Right....to answer you question. You should view Powerpoint as starting with a single blank page. You can add things to this page as you go along - pictures, text, backgrounds, sounds etc. Anything you add to the presentation is done via the insert menu.

Open Powerpoint. If you get any pop up screens or the paperclip close them.

You should have on the screen a new presentation with one blank slide in it. It may have a couple of text boxes on the slide saying "click here to add text" - delete any of these.

In Powerpoint 2003 you have a pane down the left side of the screen that shows a preview of all of the slides in the Presentation. If you want to add any new slides go to Insert...New slide.

To put a picture on a slide go to Insert...Picture....From File . You can then navigate to where your picture is and insert it. To resize your picture just click on the border and drag to resize.

To view the show go to Slideshow....View Show You can save your presentation in the same way as any other file.
