I had this problem with Belkin Wireless G+ MIMO router, and I found that it was the ISP that was the problem. At the time, mine was Virgin / NTL and the router wasn't compatible with that so Ihad to buy a different router.
Although the customer service centre is in another country I did find them very helpful and they gave me the exact model number of the router I could use, then within minutes of buying it I was set up and ready to go.
Maybe you have been unfortunate in the customer service reps you have spoken to but I have to agree it is annoying when they read from the script, especially when they are waiting for a screen to load and you get the standard "How is your day today Mrs ....", but the screen obviously loads in front of them and they don't wait for your answer because they don't really care atall LOL
