My new PC has broken so I've had to plug in my old one again. It's working, but I can't get my new speakers to work. They are on (power) but no sound goes through them. I have just plugged them in using the USB lead. Is that all I need to do?

Is the computer's volume on?

In the bottom right corner of the screen you usually see a loudspeaker icon. Right-click it and see if the volume level is up and not muted.

Do the speakers themselves have a volume control?

Which operating system is it?

Try plugging some earphones in and see if that works.
Do the speakers not need to be plugged into the sound card on your PC?

Cant say i've heard of speakers only being connected using a USB cable...
you can get usb speakers that don't need a sound card (well they have a USB sound card built in)

But as you have said old computer and new speakers I would guess that the speakers have never been used with that computer before in which case you need to find the driver disk that came with them and install, that on your old computer.

It's either that or your speakers simply take power from the USB port and as MrBounty said they also need to be plugged into your sound card for the audio.
