Today, I knocked a whole cup of hot tea over the keyboard of my laptop.............any chance of redeeming it?........the laptop, not the cup of tea.

B...dy hell, sorry mate, looks like a new laptop eh?
hahaha! seriously tho, someone once said something about using a hairdryer on it immediately to dry it out,but dont quote me on that! there must be some tips/hints somewhere on the net, failing that dont drink near the lappy next time and get a rubber keyboard protecter! hope it works out and good luck!
If you have Contents insurance including Accidental Damage, there's a chance... but you may find it excludes computers, electrical equipment etc..
Turn it off, remove the baterry, turn upside down to drain the worst out, then wrap it well in kitchen towel and place in a warm place (airing cupboard) with the screen open for at least 48 hours and then try it

Thanks boys, keep your fingers crossed.
It's going to be stone cold .... accept it's a total loss and make another cup.

do you take sugar?
sugar is death to keyboards.

the way to do it is remove the main battery
in the back there will be a small watch battery - out with that too.
any electrickery will start corrosion - so hold the on/off button in for a min or so - and you are ready

if you don't take sugar - It's a gamble - do you move to the next step? - or just let it dry out
If you do - you need DISTILLED WATER (not from the bottom of the freezer - the real thing)

fill one of those kitchen sprays - put the lappy on it's short side (like a book) on a fair bit of kitchen roll

lean it towards you and spray the keyboard to get out the gunge - leave 10 mins and repeat.

then wrap the lappy in kitchen roll and place it like a roof on a tray.

Ideally it should be burried in salt and rice (but some might say it will take about a ton of salt! - it's very good as a dessicant though)

bung it somewhere warm for 3 or more days.
then
assemble and see

you might end up having to use a keyboard - but the lappy should survive
and again - chuck beats me by a mile

(watching haunted honeymoon as well)
It still can be saved.

I bought myself a secondhand laptop then later found out some keys weren't working properly. The guy I bought it from didn't inform me there was a fault with the keyboard.

So made the assumption liquid was spilt on it. So I took the keyboard out and soak it in luke warm tap water for 1hour, shaking it vigoursly every 5min. Then took it out and dried the excess water with kitchen towel, then left on a radiator over night and then installed back on the laptop.

Surprise, surprise all the faulty keys worked perfectly.

Feedback. Woke up this a.m looked at the wife, shall I have another hour with her or should I go and play with my bu...rd PC. Went downstairs....all loghtsw now on, but screen still blank although there is some "whirring" going on. Will keep you informed.........about the PC........not about the "old lady"
aaaaah you dint' say screen was blank
pull the batteries - don't add juce till dried out - laptop - n ... no that's too bad taste.

if screen gone the gubbins is wet - it's not just a case of sticky bits.

it needs to be well dried out before you try again
