VW Golf 1.4 ,16 valve about 50,000 miles only but getting old - X reg

Decided I don't feel lucky any more after a few shocks and decided to go for a new cam belt

Found a specialist firm on the web, in Whitstable. Worth the trip from Brighton for the huge cash saving. Has anyone else used a specialist firm for this? any closer to me?

Any mechanics who feel like telling how awful it must be to do the same job all day every day - or have I got it wrong? Can you still do it efficiently?

Why would the garage getting a quote for me want to know my whole registration number - this felt really weird?
Please bear in mind my knowledge of cars is prety limited. Feel free to answer any part of this question.
