Retrieving deleted messages from MS Outlook.

Is it possible to retrieve an email message in Outlook that has been deleted and then deleted from the Deleted Items folder?

Is it Outlook or Outlook Express? There are some programs available that can retrieve the messages for you even if they have been deleted.

scanpst will do it, but you have to corrupt your pst file on purpose first and this is a highly risky thing to do!!

Are they really that important?

It's Outlook from I think Office 2003 (maybe, but definitely not 2007).

it makes little difference what version it is in this instance.

As CheekyChick said there are several commercial bit's of software available that will recover deleted mails, or it can be done for free by corrupting your .pst file (where the mail is stored) and then running scanpst on it which will reset all deleted items to not deleted.

Both the above methods will only work if you .pst file hasn't been compacted since you emptied the deleted items folder

I'm looking for a good guide to the free way of doing it :)

Click in deleted items folder then go to Tools and click on recover deleted items.

that only works on an exchange server based mail account eash, and then only if the administrator has enabled it

if you follow these instructions firstly make sure you take a copy of your PST file otherwise you may lose everything!

I asked which it was Chuck as I found a good bit of Freeware last week but it only works on .dbx files ;o)

I meant it maters little what version of outlook it is once it is known it's not outlook express.
