Can someone recommend a digital camera that I could use to take close ups of my hundreds of old style photographs that I want to put on my pc. This would be quick and easy and reasonable quality. Scanning each individually would take months. Any other ideas would also be welcome

Scanning will give you a much better solution than taking photos of them.

I also think taking a photo of each one would probably take longer than scanning each one.
As VHG said, you'll probably lose quality if you photograph them (and you might have a problem getting the light correct - don't use flash).

If you use a scanner, you can put several photos on the platter (eg. up to A4 size) and scan them all at once. You then edit them with a photo program (there are several free ones available).

Some scanners even used to have software to do this.
There are also negative scanners available which can do a strip of negatives at a time (gizoo.co.uk does one)
Scan them as wideboy suggests....lots on A4. Pull the scanned page into Paint and edit there.

The best of scanning is that you can enlarge important features and omit unnecessary background.

I appreciate people taking time to reply but you're missing the point - I have a scanner and the process is too slow. Open album, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, 8 picyures done in 5 seconds. 80 picytures in 50 secs 800 in less than an hour, the I download, then I edit. Job done. Using a scanner will take me months. Anyone know a good close up point and shoot camera ?
