Can someone please help. I would like to put my laptop back to the ethernet cable, the same as my desktop, mainly because the wireless connection is very slow. I turned the wireless off but it just did not work with the ethernet cable pushed in. How do you turn the wireless off so that everything coming from the wireless router is connected through cable. I am not impressed with wireless at all, because I have a long cable running upstairs for the desktop, the wireless laptop downstairs is extremely slow. Might be to do with BT and the signall but am fed up with the connection I have at the moment. Thanks

switch of the wireless using the switch then

click start > settings > control panel.

Find and double click on network connections, look for a connection named "local area connection" and right click on it. select properties. on the network connection properties look for internet protocol( TCP/IP) and double click on it.

Then make sure that both the tick boxes labeled obtain IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically have got ticks in them

Click ok a few times, wait a minute or two and try again.
