I regularly get emails from Africa offering mega bucks for assisting in getting funds out of country X. Obviously this is a fraud, but to whom should I forward these? The latest one even had a phone number on it!

It is a scam, the best thing is to delete these on receipt, forwarding or responding just encourges them.

Msg to Andy - I know it's a fraud, but I read somewhere that there's a police department which tries to stamp these out.

This is now a well publicised scam and is being investigated. If you want more information try http://scamfreezone.com/scams/4.shtml. However, I would simply delete the email and block the sender. I dont think there is a number to forward this on to.

These type of frauds are called "416" after their number in the Nigerian Penal code of 416. Don't reply to them wherever they originate but if you can inform the met police internet fraud office of the scam by forwarding the offending mail to [email protected] :-}
