Portable TV signal

Have just finished decorating the dining room and have bought a good quality portable tv with free-view for this room .I've tried it with an amplified indoor arial up to 40 db ,but cannot receive a good analog picture and only seem to be getting part of the free-view chanels.Not sure if i have any other options and didnt really want to run another exterior arial .A ny advice would be appreciated.

....all depends how far you are from the transmitter, Ray. Also, trees in the way etc.....................unless you're in a near perfect reception spot..........most people need an external aerial.......................

As the first answer has said, there are a lot of things to be taken into account.

Distance from transmiter, power of transmitter, height of surrounding buildings etc.

If you have an existing extenal aerial, you should be able to put a splitter in the cable, thus avoiding the need for another aerial. Contact a local aerial fitter, who will advise you on the best options.

Please appreciate that if you use an amplifier, it merely amplifies the noise (N) in the same ratio as it amplifies the signal (S).
If the S/N ratio at the aerial input isn't good enough, the decoder is incapable of separating the good from the bad.
You really have no choice but to install a decent external aerial.

I already have an external aerial but did'nt really want to run another from that .What i'll probably do is to install a 'loft' aerial and hopefully that will do the trick,it means running the cable down the front of the house but i think thats my only other option.
