help with room escape game

Please can someone help me do

or is that not allowed? I've never done one before, and I'm completely stuck and very annoyed - and probably never do another one!
I've got the logs and paper in the fireplace, and only a pair of red mitts on the right hand side which don't do anything. I've collected all but three of the presents, but I don't think they add anything to the escape?

Thanks, jacey, I've finally done it with only a small amount of cheating! - well, help really. I can stop fretting now!
