I have several pc's networked to a Belkin N1 router. All work fine except for one of them which sees the other pc's but will not connect to Broadband. I've switched off the firewall and manually configured the network Ip and gateway, but still no joy. Thinking it might be the ethernet connector on the motherboard I fitted a wireless pci card, but the same thing happens. It asks for a wep key and logs onto the network, but wont log onto broadband. I can share files with no problem. I have no problems with either of my laptops so it must be the pc. Any idea's as to what might cause this would be much appreceated. Thanks Badlad
sounds like your gateway is missing
concentrate on the wired connection - it's more predictable
if we assume that the gateway (router) IP is
192.168.1.1
look in the network properties.
you should either
have ticks in both the auto options
(IP and DNS)
or
something like
192.168.1.56
255.255.255.
192.168.1.1
there may be a problem with your router ..we had a belkin and it wouldnt work properly we had to download a plugin for it to work properly..have a look on the belkin website...
My connections are static ie.
192.168.2.12
255.255.255.0
192.168.2.252.
As i said earlier, I can use the ethernet to access other files on different pc's from the faulty one. What I can't do is type in http:\\192.168.2.252 in Explorer to access the router on this pc. I can however on all the other 5 pc's.
I assume its an Explorer thing.
Thx Badlad.
Well, after 2 days of getting nowhere, I wiped the pc and reloaded XP. My problems are solved!. I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
Than you all for you input.
Badlad.
