I have pictures on my laptop and want to save them on a disc, can somebody please give me an IDIOTS guide to doing this please.

Just had a thought.
Why do you want them on a disc.
If it just for safety and storage consider using a USB Memory Stick. They are very cheap now and you just copy them across.

If you dont know how to copy between drives it is easily explained

Put blank CD in drive.

Open file 'My pictures' (that contain your pics). Go to Edit-Select all (right klik mouse). To left of page, or right-klik mouse, look for 'copy to CD' klik on that. Should now copy!

If you have a CD -RW but wont work if like most lap tops it is just a reader hence my asking.

terambulan's explanation should work for any machine with a writer

if you just want to move the files a usb stick is ok ... but if it's for bckup ... the sticks have a shelf life ... so if you leave it in a drawer for a few years ... it won't be there ...

As I understand it flash memory has a useage life of about 10 years - but only a storage "shelf life" of about seven years max - before the capacitors start to reset.

good for lift and shift ... but not so good for long term storage

then of course there is the high rate of corruption - from �2 "bargains"
and impatient people ripping them out half way through a copy
compared with single session CD/DVD and HDD ... no contest

and of course the loss factor (if I had a penny for every one I've left plugged in or draged out of a pocket with my wallet .... well I'd be able to buy a replacement.

I use them all the time ... but only as transport.

single session CD/DVD are second best (at least for as long as they still make a device that will read them (remember betamax?))
but the storage that seems to last the longest is the all time favourite ... paper...

We have family photos going back to mid victorian which are a bit bashed about ... but still perfectly viewable.

Sorry to have hijacked your thread eternalteena I should have started a new question.

It seems to have completely put you off burning a CD do you want any more help or have we all put you off ?

It is easy peasy and answered further up the list if you have a CD that will burn to discs.

I do still need help as I have tried the above ideas but not good so I don't have a burner, I agree paper is best but I don't have a printer so anymore ideas will br appreciated

Go on website www.cnetdownloads.com and download deep burner then with that you can transfer music ,pictures and video's on to disc. good luck.
