Internet pages- width

Answers to two questions please, 1) why are some internet pages so wide that I have to keep moving the page left and right to see all of it ? 2) is there any way of overcoming this annoyance? (wide screen setting?,wide screen monitor?) Any advice welcomed (almost!!!)

Generally speaking internet pages are whatever width the designer of the site decided to make them. Some sites will try to adjust themselves to fit within your browser window, others won't. You could get a wide screen monitor, but there's no guarantee that you won't still come across sites that have been designed for an even wider one!
Of course, if you have a side bar with your history or favourites enabled, closing that will help.

thanks,rojash, i'll look into the 'wide-screen monitor 'idea. My friend 'Arthur Itis' just gets annoyed with having to keep manipulating the mouse all over the place .

While Rojash is correct, you could also increase the resolution of your screen.

Right-click on your desktop and click properties. Click one of the tabs at the top of the window that's just appeared (last one I think), and you may find it's set to something like 1024x768. Increasing this will make everything on the screen smaller.

You can then increase the font size and icon size, if you need to. But web pages that were previously wider than your screen will now show in their entirety.

Also, you can get some mice (I have a Logitech MX1000 that works nicely), with a scroll wheel on the top that tilts left and right too. This makes it easy to scroll vertically as well as horizontally, without moving your hand much (basically just your index finger).
