a friend of mine wants to help me find why i have so little space on my laptop left. as we live miles apart he has suggested that i should let him log into logmein.com so he can view my computer. im a bit wary about this, will he really be able to see everything , not that i have anything to hide? for example will he be able to see me when im logged in live on yahoo, surely he will be able to read my emails sent or otherwise? your reassurance? please

You can probably free up a fair bit of space yourself anyway.
If you haven't already done so, download, install and run CCleaner. That will let you delete all the junk that accumulates in your temporary files folder from browsing and can also be used to delete temporary files created by various applications. Oh yes, it also deletes the index files which hold your whole browsing history and which are not deleted by IE.
If you have System Restore automatically creating restore points for you (that's on XP, don't know if something similar exists on Vista), delete all but the last couple of restore points.
Then run Add/Remove Programs (or use the option in CCleaner to do the same thing) and remove any unwanted applications you may have installed and no longer use.
If you haven't been deleting temporary files created by your browser, CCleaner will probably manage to free a lot of space for you, possibly enough to make you a lot happier and not need to delete old restore points, though that is a good idea too.

If you know enough about computers to use a web browser (presumably since you've posted this question), then you will be able to install this free program:
http://windirstat.info/
See the download section, get the setup file for all Windows versions. Once downloaded, double-click to install.
You can then run it. After a minute or two, it'll present you with a brightly coloured picture, showing the contents of your hard drive. The big squares are big chunks of your space being used. You can then decide if you want to remove that stuff or not.
(I'd try this before letting anyone else play with your computer unless you trust them implicitly.)

I use logme in most days to remote access my home laptop.
I have used it once where my IT knowledgeable friend helped me sort something out but I was sitting at my laptop at the time and coudl see exactly what he was doing.
If the person remote accessing your laptop you are in a position to close the connection at any time.
When you're all done, there's nothing stopping you changing the passowrd protectio on logmein so he cannot access it later and without your knowledge.
