Leroy smith of Sweet sensation

Anyone remember him ?
FORMER pop star Leroy Smith - a member of 1970s chart-toppers Sweet Sensation - has died, aged 56, alone in his flat.
Leroy played keyboards in the Manchester soul band who had a number one hit with Sad Sweet Dreamer in 1974.
He was found dead in his flat above the takeaway Chicken George he ran at Northmoor Road, Longsight.
Jamaica-born Leroy, who lived alone, had not been seen for about a month and a friend alerted police. They forced entry to the flat where they found Leroy's body upright in a chair. He died from natural causes brought on by broncho-pneumonia.
I loved this song , what a sad lonely end for him

I live in the area and would see Leroy fairly regular. The last time I spoke to him he told me he was finally getting things sorted after the fire at the take away and that he would call to my house over Christmas and have a drink with me as he had done the year before.
I know it seems unlikely for such a laid back guy but I think the stress of the problems over the shop could have been part of his demise.
He was well known in the area as Chicken George and many people would go to see him in his take away, where he not only served up good food but also a philosophy of life and I know he will be sadly missed in the area.
God Bless You Leroy !
Peace & Luv From your friend Terry Robson.
I'll after pay you back that onion you lent me in
The Hereafter.
