4 Answers
hi I like to clear my Temp Files now and then but I have a pesky adobe reader DF 5645 tmp file in RUN %temp% that won't delete into the recycle bin, it claims to have some link with other user or programme even when I do a files search and all other applications have been closed I can't find where to put it thanks for any help Tez

there are a number of tactics
rename the file from DF5645.tmp to DF 5645.old and hit delete
open a dos prompt in the folder c:\>del *.tmp
or the big guns
eraser http://www.heidi.ie/node/6
unlocker http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
both of which will have a go when you restart your machine
you can also try bootdisks such as UBCD ... none are guaranteed - but generally one or the other will work

there seem to be a number of reasons ...
but in your case the temp file isn't in use ... even though it's locked ... that allows you to change the extension ... which "hides" the file from whatever is holding it
if you like a "tight ship" try ccleaner ... once every couple of months ... more regular if it suits
and just occasionally defrag ... 3 or 4 times a year should be enough
