Inbox problems
Aaagh, this AB website is still operating so slow.Takes ages to post and process comments and questions!!
Anyway, please, please can anyone help with my dilemma.
For some unknown strange reason,I went into my Inbox on my Outlook Express, and the following happened.
At the bottom right of the screen it usually says that it is authorising.
Then after a short while, another smaller window appears with a heading of Logon - Talktalk in it's title bar
which has never appeared before.
It shows a small graphic of a padlock with two keys in the top left corner of the box, and says alongside:-
Please enter your username and password for the following server. In the middle of this window has an outline of a box and within it, it says
Server: mail.talktalk.net
Username: (now here I see my email address quite clearly)
Password: ( same with the password, but there are dots which hide my password)
So,I presume everything is okay, and when I click the OK button, after a few seconds the stupid Logon - Talktalk window appears again.I have clicked it a few times, but this window is refusing to budge.I am for sure that my password and email address is correct.
Can anyone please help me out here??
I get very confused with these kind of things.Aaaaagh!!
Any help will be gratefully received. Many thanks!!

Go to Tools > Accounts.
Click on the 'Mail' tab.
If you've only got one email account it will probably already be highlighted. Otherwise click on the account name to highlight it.
Click 'Properties'.
Select the 'Servers' tab.
Check that the incoming (POP3) server address is 'mail.talktalk.net'
Check that the outgoing (SMTO) server address is smtp.talktalk.net
Check that your username is shown in the form '[email protected]'.
Delete your (asterisked) password and retype it.
Check that there's a tick alongside 'Remember password'
Check that there are no ticks anywhere else.
Click 'Apply', 'OK' and 'Close'.
If that doesn't work, start as before but (instead of selecting 'Properties') select 'Remove'. When asked to confirm this action, do so.
Then click 'New > Mail' and create the account again by following the on-screen instructions (using the POP3 and SMTP server addresses from above).

Many thanks for replying to my plea Chris.
Unfortunately, the first part of your help failed to to anything.
I am still having bl00dy problems with this pesky inbox thing.
Oooh, computers really do test you these days.Gaaagh!!
I clicked on Properties, and that failed to work.
So I deleted my account like you said, and I started all over again and this time I got the error report.....
The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
S, I hope you are still around to offer some help..many thanks!!
I will just go back and try agin to rectify the problem.
Looks as though I've made a mess of things...
I hope you can help me fix it..

In the Internet Connection Wizard, what do I type in the two long empty boxes.
The top box says:-
Incoming mail(POP3,IMAP or HTTP) server:
and the bottom box says:-
An SMTP server is the server that is used for your outgoing e-mail
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server
I thought you just put POP3 in the top box and SMTP in the bottom box.Have I done this right? Is this got anything to do with the Error report I got earlier?
All these servers are getting me all mixed up here.....
I don't know whether I coming or going at the moment.
Aaagh help!! I wish I hadn't Removed my account now.Gulp! I hope I'm not in deep $!t !!!

Sorry for the delay.
I've been working a long way from home (2 hours drive each way) with a load of paperwork to complete when I get home, so it's not left me much time.
You asked what goes in the two 'long empty boxes'. Take a look at my original post and you'll see that I provided the answers!
In the 'POP3' box put 'mail.talktalk.net'
In the 'SMTP' box put 'smtp.talktalk.net'
Don't panic! It really is easy to set up an email account.
I've got another long day tomorrow but I'll try to check back to make sure that you've sorted things out. (I checked this thread before I went to bed last night and your posts weren't showing up at that time, otherwise I'd have tried to answer then).

Chris
Don't worry about it Imhotep, it's a fault with TalkTalks email server.

But when it's finally sorted, some users have lost some folders and you may have to contact them to retrieve them.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
But that link of yours could help a bit dabees.
I will try again another day, and I will let both of you know how I get on.
Thanks again guys!!
It might be a while as I've got to go back to work tomorrow.
I think I'll post a thread with the title of FAO Dabees/Buenchico...............

Don't use them Imhotep, just use Chris' instructions and contact TalkTalk via the forum i linked to. It's free, you just need your TalkTalk details to join.
The TT members forum is very good, much better than the phone lines managed by people armed with a set list of questions and no IT knowledge.
Ask about your problems in the broadband/email section and one of the helpful mods will soon sort you out.
Best of luck.

I'm still at my wits end.I'm getting these error reports now...
The host 'Talktalk' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'Talktalk', Server: 'Talktalk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
and
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.talktalk.net', Server: 'mail.talktalk.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Login failed.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I'm getting really confused now.I have entered my username and password carefully in the Talk Talk link that dabees provided and they don't accept those details either.
As I cannot email anyone at the moment I think it's best if I phone Talk talk and seriously complain...
