I am sorry if this question has been asked before, but I really need to know what the best budget airline in the U.K. is. I will be flying from Birmingham to Edinburgh in the third week in March, but can not find a cheap airline at all. The best quote I have had for this return flight is over 103, which to me is not cheap at all.

Can any ABers tell us what the best overall airline within the U.K. is? I could fly there from Manchester or Birmingham, by the way.

Try BMI baby. I've just had a quick look but not sure of your exact dates or how long your staying but it was coming at approx 55 each.
If you can get to East Midlands airport BMI baby fly from there too and is sometimes a bit cheaper

Forgot to mention. Nearly all 'Budget' airline now have hidden extras that don't show intil your booking is almost complete. These include checked in baggage and airport check in as opposed to checking in online.
If your travelling with hand luggage only you can check in online and save yourself abour 25.
you've not said when you want to travel. Picking random dates in the middle of March I've found single flights for 4p, (with Flybe), which equates to a return fare of around 50 after taxes & charges. These fares aren't available for weekend travel - is you quote for a weekend journey?
There's no such thing as an airline which is consistently cheapest. One airline will be cheaper on one route (or on a particular date), another will be cheaper on a different route or date. (Having said that, Ryanair is usually worth checking for 'bargain basement' fares subject, of course, to them operating on the route which you want to travel on).

For travel to Edinburgh, from either Manchester or Birmingham, the only airlines available to you are Flybe and Bmi. Source:

For me in London it was a BA deal. I ended up actually using lastminute.com to get the flight and the hotel combined.
try the train line .com 2 singles cheaper than return and much cheaper than flying
just checked 16th march single 10 booked in advance
I use BMI Baby quite a bit and have always been very satisfied. They're currently doing Edinburgh at 45.03 return.
