It is most likely that the drive has got stuck, disabling it's playability and triggering a function that stops it from burning out totally. If you slap it one it will most likely unstick. Or you can send it to Apple and they will charge you a fortune to fix it!
No dis-respect, but that is what you get for being a fashion victim!!! If you buy a new player, get a "Creative Labs" Juke box ZEN. Far superior.
Folder with Exclamation Point officially means wrong iPod software version, but it can also believe this has happened when there is a disk access fault. Try connecting it the to PC / Mac and accessing it as an external drive, if you can't do this you've got hardware problems. Otherwise format & re-install firmware on the iPod, then put all your music back on.
Try using the Updater to re-install.
This was up last night and has been every other time I have tried it but is down just now for some reason
