Is My Telly Knackered?

Recently I turned my TV to discover an intermittent squeaking noise, with no picture and no standby or power lights - does this mean the tube has gone?  I'd rather not try look into repairing it if someone is going to charge me �50 to tell me I need a new one!!

No it's not the tube, it never is. The intermittent squeaking is the trip circuit operating, which means a component fault. Could be a power transistor, or IC or perhaps the line output transformer. A decent tv engineer might be able to give you an estimate based on the model (they tend to have stock faults), but my guess is a fairly expensive repair.

need more info , mate.

 

 sounds like a shorted horizontal output transistor, often caused by improper horizontal drive or bad soldering. This will need to be checked. get it to a tech for a proper estimate not based on intenet guesses and speculation
