How to use a web cam

Can someone explain in simple terms how to contact someone with a web cam please and I really do mean as simple language as possible. I want to contact a friend in Australia in the morning but i find the language on computers very hard to understand ( my excuse is being over 60) Please will someone help. We have Skype and my friend has given me a word and number that she says is for Skype. Should I have one as well. Help.

Your question isn't very clear.

Are you trying to locate your friend on Skype; set up a webcam with Skype; or have you talked to your friend on Skype but be unable to see her on webcam?

She is going to be on her PC in morning and I want to try and talk to her and obviously see her with my Web cam. I have got the Skype set up but don't know what to do after that. I press my Skype icon and get my picture from my web cam on screen so I know it is switched on. I have also done the sound test and that is ok. What do I do after that to cantact her?

It sounds as if you have done everything already.

To be sure, open your Skype, and click 'tools' and then 'options'.

Click the 'video settings' tab and make sure you have 'automatically receive video from only people in my contact list' ticked.
If there is a 'test my webcam' or similar use it to test your own setup.
Click 'save' and close.

To contact your friend, if you haven't done so before, open Skype and type her Skype name in the 'search' box. It will probably be the word and number she has given you. When you find her, click 'add to my contacts' and you should be able to contact her.
