don't mobile phone companies do this ? you have a usb stick which plugs into your laptop and connects via your mobile ,check out t mobile or orange or 3 websites for details
This is the sort of thing glenis is talking about.

Usually called Mobile Broadband

I am using O2 as an example, all the mobile phone companies offer it.
PC Pro magazine did a review of mobile broadband last July.

Will be slightly out of date, but may give you some background

If you want a truly mobile solution without any connections ... the only way I know is to enroll at Hogwarts

failing that ... you need something

I have a T-mobile web 'n' walk usb stick. I find speed is very good...but I am obviously in a good reception area.
The problem with these is they will only offer a good service where reception strength is good.
