does anybody know of a good spyware that works, free hopefully, I had a trojan virus on my computer and it tried to transfer �3,500 from my account, luckily the bank spotted it and blocked the account I have avg and firewall but they didn't pick this up, also how can I stop Ladbroke ads popping up, I have tries to block them in my tools option, but it won't do it. Thanks for any help

Yes of course I have thought about it, but how do I know if they are telling me that I have virus' just to get me to buy their product. Trust me this is driving me crazy with worry

Thanks for that, but it's not me visiting sites that need industrial strength protection, believe it or not I am a digital scrapbooker and they are the only sites I visit, but I have two teenage children who seem to think that my laptop is up for grabs any time they want , we also have 3 other computers in the house :D

If you are usng XP or Vista then it is easy to put a password on your Windows account to stop them using it.

If you dont mind them using your laptop, create a Windows account for them, but set it as a limited user as this limits what they can do (such as not being able to download and install programs for example).

You say you have AVG and a firewall, but then ask about spyware software because you had a virus.

A virus is not spyware and spyware is not (usually) a virus so you need different products to look for each. AVG for example will not usually find spyware.

Also, it is OK having a firewall, but if you just say "ok" to everything that asks to connect to the internet you may as well not have it.

So things to consider:

1) You must have an anti virus product on your PC, but make sure it updates each day, and try to run it each day (or let it autorun).

2) You mut have a firewall on your PC, like say Zone alarm, but every so often go into Zone alarm and CHECK what programs have been given access to web. If there is any you dont recognise do some research.

Every so often I go into ZoneAlarm and delete EVERY program that has access to the web. I then let every program ask AGAIN for access to the web, that way I can check what programs may be installed on my PC and going out to the internet.

3) You can have one or more spyware [products on your PC, but again you must update them and run them on a regular basis.

I use malwarebytes and adaware. Others also say Spybot Search and Destroy is good.

One final thing.

I am usually one of those who says to people go and get free security asoftware.

But I have never nearly lost �3,500 pounds.

So as ACtheTROLL says, for the sake of �15 I would buy the 3 user license of Kaspersky.

Software suites like that usually run ALL THE TIME and are monitoring your PC CONSTANTLY (Real Time Protection).

"Free" security software often only runs when you tell it to.

That will give you peace of mind.

For ultimate peace of mind, never do banking or financial transactions on a Windows system. Get a bootable Linux CD (e.g. Ubuntu - it's free) and run from that. It takes just a few minutes to load up, and is guaranteed free of viruses, spyware, etc.

Also of course, never respond to any email requesting your bank details, confirm your PIN, etc. Banks NEVER email you in this fashion.
