what area of study should i look to?

I'm a freshman in college and have no idea what area of study i should go into. I like cultures and languages and enjoyed some classes i took in world religions, anthropology, and french. I thought that International Relations was a good choice, but i found that it didnt interest me enough. I want to pick a field that I'll actually like, yet job availablity in the future is also very important to me. Id really appreciate some advice; what should i study/major/minor in that will ensure me a good job in the future?

Only you can answer this. You will have to make a compromise between your current interests, what is available at your institution, and your intended career. Most people must now expect to change career during their lifetimes so don't get too hung up on specialising too deeply too soon.

I totally agree with Lil; don't worry too much about making choices now that will see you through the rest of your working life. It is perfectly possible nowadays to make a dramatic career change after several years (I am currently doing just that!) so don't worry about it!

Unfortunately in the current economic climate there's no such thing as being 'ensured a good job', so my advice would be to take options that interest you and that you'll be enthusiastic enough about to get good grades in. Once you've got through your schooling, you'll have plenty of time to worry about your career choices! Good luck

I don't know about the American educational system but in the UK my children discussed this with me many times. I could only go through career options with them but in the end it was what they desired that counted. Go with your heart - study what you enjoy. Life is too short to take up a well paid job you hate. If you love a carer you are more likely to make a success of it.
Is there a tutor you relate to? Can you discuss this problem with him/her?

Anything that you are interested in even if it does not directly relate to a job in the future will be good. It shows employers that you are willing to study and have a broad spectrum of knowledge that could lead to different things. It is obviously also important to do things which would help in your career too but what I am saying is anything and everything is good even if its a total mixture of different subjects. It's definitely best to do as many courses as possible now (well assuming you are 16-18 yrs old) otherwise once you're over 18 yrs old you will have to pay.
