Mobile broadband

I have been phoned by T-Mobile who have said that because I have been a loyal client I could have a mobile broadband 'thingy'. Sorry, not tecnically minded...Apparently it's not a 'dongle'...same principle but it's supposed to be the latest thing which is better than te dongle. It has unlimited downloads and runs at 8mb...Whatever that means? Its �9.79 per month with a 24 month contract....Can anyone advise? Im worried that its just a glorified dongle, which is no good for me as there is no signal at my mothers house.....
