I need to change the cmos battery in my PC but despite being told by my local Computer shop that all I have to do is take the old one out and put the new one in..I find that all the "advice " I get from the Internet tells me to save various settings before I do this.........Do I HAVE to save stuff or not is my question?..Thanks in advance...

This is a small computer program that lives inside the hardware of the computer and contains the technical details of the computer.
This will NOT get lost if you remove your battery.
However you may have gone into the BIOS and made come changes. It is these changes that people talk about saving.
If you have made no changes to your BIOS you do not need to save anything before changing the battery.
When the new battery is put in you MAY need to reset the date and time on the PC.

switch off the computer and put the cmos battery from the motherboard.
after that you can put the new battery in the motherboard .
your data will not lose.
because cmos battery is used only for to keep the time and date in to the computer.
