What is msmsgs.exe
There are 2 theories as to what msmsgs.exe actually is. The first is that this is an error on your PC caused by MSN Messenger. The error is generated when the Internet Status Call Back function is called with an invalid context pointer ' the only way to get rid of it is to update your version of MSN Messenger. Secondly
(and this is the much more likely explanation) it is believed that this is a worm virus ' it was discovered on 23 February 2002 and the anti virus website Symantec tells you how to get rid of it (you can find out more at

Basically the virus is known as W32.Alcarys.B@mm - it is a mass mailing worm that sends itself to your entire address book and overwrites many system files including regedit.exe - eventually using up all memory and resources. Among other names, the virus copies itself as C:\Msmsgs.exe on your PC.
Symantec recommends that you delete any files detected, and reinstall windows. You can find out more on Symantec's website - at the address above.
