How can I uninstall this from laptop with vista?

You can't uninstall it, it's part of the Vista OS but you can disable it in the Security section of the Control Panel

Although there is a product from Microsoft called Defender, I am also hearing about a piece of spyware called WinPC Defender.

Be very wary of downloading anything that claimsa to fix it as that could just as easily be spyware as well.

Although I have no experience of removing WinPC Defender you could try these 3 tools as they are all trustworthy (and free).

Hopefully one will remove it
