In IE the RSS Feeds icon is greyed out. When I hover it I get 'No feeds detected on this page (Alt+J). Why, and can it be repaired?
Also in Firefox it is not there at all !!

just a stab in the dark, but maybe the "error" "'No feeds detected on this page" means that page has no RSS feeds.

in fact if the page has no feeds it may (just possibly!) even explain why firefox is not even giving the option!

Yeah ok. Let me put it another way then. Up until a few days ago, there it was all bright and orange, always, and on both IE and FF's 'home pages and now it aint.
do you get the RSS icon here?

If you do then nothing wrong your end and it's the page your viewing has obviously stopped providing a feed.
