For best TV reception you need an outdoor Aerial preferably situated on top of your Block of Flats. Indoor Aerials are ok if you are living close to the Transmitter, but with Analogue Signals getting switched off and being replaced by Digital (Freeview) I would go for a completely new outdoor Aerial Installation, plus new Co-Axial cable for optimal viewing.Your TV is only as good as the Type and condition of the Aerial that supplies it !!
When you tune the TV there may be an option to 'store' the channel. If you are not doing it, then that explains why you are losing it when you switch off.

If you must persist with the indoor aerial, try a signal booster.
