PC to TV

I have a Packard Bell laptop to which I download films from the net and wish to know the best way to connect to my 37" Samsung (HD Ready) TV.
I have a VGA output from the laptop and S-Video on TV so can one of you clever friends out there tell me exactly what I require and would I need to alter the TV settings. I am on Sky which means the only channel selections I usually make is via the Sky remote unit. Many thanks.
