Is there a free and effective ad blocker for Google Chrome? I like it but I can't stand the adverts.

Admuncher is not free and does not work well with Google Chrome.

i dont use google chrome

but only passssed the link as a courtesy

No I use Adblock, but that isn't available for chrome yet, it was announced in december that a version of adblock is in the pipeline for chrome though.

Adsweep seems to get mixed reviews, the main problem some people seem to have is it changes the layouts on some pages.

Another option is http://www.privoxy.org which is a non-caching local proxy that removes ads from any browser you use. I've heard it works well but don't use it as I have a catching proxy on my gateway and adblock so it would serve no purpose for me.
