my computer is not recognizing my mp3 or camera

my computer is not charging or recognising my mp3 player or digital camera. when i plug them via usb nothing happens! have checked on device manager and this says usbs are working, any ides/? Thanks in advance x

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Not recognising them could be a software problem BUT if they won't charge then clearly the problem is with the port. When Windows says a device is working it should really preface that with "as far as I can tell".
Just as an example. The ports on the from of the computer are connected to the motherboard by cable. If the cable was damaged or disconnected, Windows would have no way of telling.
