Hi

Is there a way to trick a server into thinking you are from from the states so you can watch clips and videos from american sites that only allow you to view it if you are in the states

hope this makes sense

thanks

yes, they are called proxy servers, but you will be hard pushed to find one that isn't banned by most places that stream video and also most proxy servers are not fast enough for video streaming
yes, you can download and installed the software's from the American server.
downloading and using the software from the american server wont work.

The video companies use ip tracing to see where your located, the easy way USED to be use a proxy server in the US, however most of these are now blocked.

There is another way but its not free.
Use something called a VPN (virtual private network)
A simple explanation is like a concrete tunnel between your computer and a VPN computer (ideally in the US in your case) and the internet is reached from that VPN in the us side.
As far as anyone is concerned your ip is the american site, nobody can get to your computer.

I know this works because I use it to watch all the latest shows you cant see in the UK until ages after the Americans have it.

The one I'd recommend is http://strongvpn.com
its appx $155 a year (if you buy yearly)
there are cheaper, but I've found the speeds to be too slow, the one above is pretty fast and fast enough to watch HD tv live online.
