i have a PB intel cor Duo i.60 ghz RAM 1014- with windows Vista- only 18 months old-the performance is very slow, constantly freezes and does not allow me to open a browser, have to ctl/alt/del to get it to close down.
when im in a browser is fades out, and then stops running and closes down, WHATS GOIN ON? i run the Virus scan every day, does not show any viruses, tried to clean it up but still no change.......would love an ideas, to sort it out.

uninstall any progs you don't use
copy as much of your data as poss to dvd - and remove from hdd

thanks- i did all those suggestions already, cleaned it, un-installed lots of programmes and still no good..thanks anyway, will scroll through all the other questions see if anything thing else comes up.

remove the unwanted software from the add and remove programs.

delete temp and prefetch files from the computer.
update the installed anti virus and scan the computer.
delete all the threats if founded.
run the disk cleaner .
disable the start up items from the msconfig except the anti virus.
delete temp files, cookies, history from the internet explorer.

Have you tried a different browser? If you only use IE, try Firefox or Google Chrome.

It's worth a few minutes to give it a go.

Has it always been like this?

Vista is a beast of a system, and to be honest, the specs of your laptop is a little low for Vista (that doesn't stop manufacturers selling them though). Double the RAM would really help, and is probably quite cheap to buy.

You can scan your system and it will tell you what kind of RAM you need, and what you currently have. Ideally, you want two lots of the same type of RAM, if you are going to do this. If you currently have 1GB RAM on one stick, then you want to buy another stick of 1GB RAM (assuming that there are two slots for RAM in your laptop). If your RAM is current 2 sticks of 512MB RAM (more likely), then you want to buy a kit of 2 sticks of 1GB RAM.
