a 56k modem is a box or something like that which turns your phone line into a internet connection which u can plaug into your pc or watever. it is very slow and u cant use the phone whilst on the internet or vice versa. Broadband on the other hand is 10 times as fast and u can use th phone at th same time. it does cost more tho.
