Does anyone know how to stop the Internet Explorer window from opening half screen size?  When I click on maximise, it does not fill the screen either.  Any hints?

Internet Explorer usually remembers the last window size setting, so if you've opened it and changed the size it should appear that size in the next instance of it. Alternatively, you can go to the IE shortcut properties and in there is a dropdown list which will give you the option of opening with a full window. The maximised window not filling the screen suggests that you need to adjust the monitor settings.
