help with freecycle please
15 Answers
I subscribed to a local freecycle site, as I wanted to give my piano away, and last Sunday I asked them to stop sending e-mails, as the piano has been taken, but they just won't stop. I have even deleted the account and sent them loads of unsubscribe e-mails. Any suggestions please before I go mad

Freecycle is great but when you give away something as cool as a piano they all go nuts! When you put a "taken" post on the list there are still all the people who get the emails delivered and they work their way through them.
Think is that the emails you're getting would be from individuals I imagine rather than from Freecycle so the filter may not work. Best to scan for "piano" instead.

Go to your Freecycle group page on Yahoo groups and login. Above the Green bar near the top of the screen will be your username and then in blue - "edit membership". Click on that and scroll down to "message delivery", uncheck all the boxes to stop getting any more emails from Freecycle.
Seems like you originally ticked "individual emails" which means when ever anyone posts something to that Freecycle group page - you get an email about it. It's better just to set it to "daily digest" where you get one email per day with all the new posts on.
Of course you can also cancel your membership from that page too - look for the "leave group" box at the very bottom right of the page.

Hi LCDMAN I left the group about 4 days ago and unchecked all the boxes, but it hasn't made any difference, I am concerned as other people's e-mail can contain virus' as I know to my cost. On Friday it took my husband 8 hours on and off talking to virgin to sort out a problem that this has caused, I was having 39 e-mails at a time coming down in a loop and I had to delete over 1000 of them, so you will understand why I am so stressed.
Yes I did that immediately the piano was taken, it's not about the piano, it's what they are offering and asking for that I get e-mails about, the other 2 groups I belong to I don't have any problems with at all and I can't find the moderator's e-mail address. I have just deleted another couple of e-mails from my inbox. I'm all for recycling but this is driving me mad
You are just being copied on EVERY new post onto the board, they aren't targeting you directly! Have you checked that your membership is actually cancelled because it sounds like it is still active to me?
Can you login still and change the contact preferences like I suggested above - that dictates what emails the group send you and how often - right now it seems you have/had selected the "indivdual emails" option, which will send you a new email containing each new post to the board? Give it a try?
You should be able to contact the groups moderators directly - check on the group's homepage. For me it's email to: [email protected] so yours might well have a similar format. Bear in mind though that the moderators are volunteers and may well have "proper" jobs, not just sat waiting for an email to pop up - they may take a while to reply.
