If the DVD is not protected, youcan just use nero. It works for non-protected DVD.

If it's protected by CSS, then you may need DVD ripper to do the job,it works for both protected and non-protected DVD.It is not free, but it worth that money.

Highly suggest that you just use it to rip things that are original productions and not commercial.

AnyDVD works well.

If you're happy converting the DVD to a mp4 file (iPod compatible), then Handbrake is a really nice program --- but you do sometimes have to use AnyDVD first anyway, to get the DVD onto your hard drive.

What I am using is another popular DVD Ripper program: Pavtube DVD Ripper now.

It is used to convert DVD to many other video and audio formats, such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, MOV, MP4, MP3 compatible with iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune.

I prefer the progam as its after-sale service is good. Last month, I encountered a problem and sent it to them, they replied and solved my problem on time.

So I think when choosing an appropriate program for ourselves, we should consider not only its quality, functions, but also its after-sale service.

However, this is not a freeware. I think in order to get good quality and good service, sometimes we have to pay and I believe it's worth the money.
