Vista password

Please can someone help. Computer will not accept password for administrator account, is there a way to change the password without reinstalling the soft ware. Do not have password reset disc. Many thanks.

Microsoft say:

If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.

Maybe there is a "fix", but I don't know of one.

You could always try asking your father/teacher nicely and maybe they'll do it for you.

That on the basis that "will not accept" is essentially the same as "forgot" in that you cannot get in.

in vista the admin account is disabled by default

you'll have to sign on with your ID (or one of the two accounts created on the machine which will be administrator accounts), enable THE administrator account, log out and then you can log on as the administrator.

My husband has already tried this. It is my sisters laptop, my nieces have their own account on this and can get in no problem with their password, but my sister is unable to with her password. Any other ideas what to do? Many thanks.

Do your nieces have an administrator account, if so it should be easy for them to remove your sister`s password.

Thanks everyone for your advice. My son came home from work, sat down late at night and plodded through the laptop and hey presto he has sorted it out, not sure what he did, but it is up and running.
