I read that all digital photographs are given an exclusive identity in some form? Does this mean that if I copy a folder into another folder containing the same photographs that I will end up with many copies of the same photograph??
Is there any 'software' that ,primarily, is free and secondly, is easy to use? My photo's are growing by the Gigabit!!
Any help please?
Cheers

Software to do what?
You tell us you have a problem with gigabytes of photos, but you dont say want you actually want to DO with them.
The EXIF data is only created when you TAKE the picture with the camera.
You can copy the picture to other folders as many times as you like and the EXIF data for that picture always stays the same.

There is a program (Fast Duplicate File Finder) which will find duplicated images on your PC. It will only find and tag them for deletion if the images are the same size though, so if you have resized any of them, the resized images won't be picked up. You can add as many folders as you like in the search options, and it does work fast.
Oh yes, it's free and can be downloaded here
