Is this likely to take the top spot away from Google? Whats the main differences?

Bing is from Microsoft, and Microsoft HATE Google (because they are taking their "control" of the web away from them).

I have not used Bing so have no idea how good it is, but it will take a while for people to get out of the habit of using Google.

I have to say Bing is a TERRIBLE name.

Mind you, I have to say that Microasoft are very good at grabbing "market share" for their products, like with Windows, Office, Internet Explorer etc) so it would not surprise me if they have some devious plan to try to get us all to use Bing.

I bet it is already the default search engine for Internet Explorer.

Yes, and shortly they are to roll out Windows 7 said to replace Vista which has had such a short life. This can only shorten the demise of support for XP which will then rake in extra $billions for the new product.

Seems a tad pointless - why don't Microsoft just spend the money on making the OS work properly instead ?

Using the analogy of an old car when things go wrong with it you change certain parts or repair it. In the end this canabalised motor is still fit for the scrap heap because the failure of one part affects many other parts.

Applying this to XP the initial design and concept has altered so much it no longer conforms to the original software design as changes upon changes have made it a crock.

Thats what they tell you anyway, nothing to do with extra profits.
