Live tv aerial cable
7 Answers
We have been getting small shocks from our TV aerial cable (coaxial I believe) and even from the extention cable in the other room. My husband has never known of this to happen. We have Sky and normal Spanish TV but I was getting tingles from before we had the local tv, so it must something to do with the Sky . What is causing this and how can we stop it. Thank you

It's quite common - but before you believe that - you should check - or have it checked for a real electrical fault
sky boxes and some tellys hold the aerial outer sheath at mains neutral ground rather than at earth (2 core mains cable) to leak the high voltages created inside the box - the aerial itself is fixed to the wall - so you'll get a small potential difference - more of a static blip than current
if you disconnect - you should find the shock comes from the box and not the cable.

Well I first noticed it when video recorders became silver coloured, I was getting shocks whenever I touched it, everyone bo boed me but it is still happening. We got a new LCD tv and Samsung dvd recorder, (I think they are ok) but whenever I have to adjust the bedroom aerial (don't ask) then I get a tingle from the end of it. I always wear rubber soled shoes and runner gloves now, and it's not funny.
He felt the shock last week after redecorating a bedroom, he didn't believe me before and I'm not the only one to have felt it, a friend who came up to tune the video/dvd player also got a shock (we don't have that machine anymore). It has also happened to a friend in her own house. (Nylon nightie indeed!) What can we do to stop it or are we all doomed!
A possible!
Your Sky pumps out a nice 12 volts down the co-axial cable up to the LNB on the dish. It also can send out another 12 volt supply from its second RF output if you have other tv's around the house that you can watch sky on. If you then connect a normal tv areil to one or more of these tv's via a splitter say you get cross over. Try turning the sky off and unplugging it see if the shocks go away? 12 volts wont do you any harm if thats what it is :-)
